Shhhh

Life sometimes reminds me of a science experiment.

Some days it’s a spontaneous experiment gone bad and then other days it can turn out to be an explosion of joy, as in a science experiment gone fabulous.

The science I am reminded of today has to do with the classic law of physics that we all learned in school and that is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Conversations can sometimes fall into this law of physics, many of them revolving around that push-pull, turning into equal and opposite reactions of a dynamic conversation or they … Read More

My Dad and I Goofing Around I miss my Dad.  A lot. I miss hearing his voice, talking to him and hanging out with him. I miss helping him with his eye drops, reading the newspaper to him and bringing him his favorite chicken salad sandwiches from Panera. I miss the way he talked like Donald Duck and his funny way of telling a story. His funeral was on March 2 and I am trying hard to figure out how to deal with his absence, the actual physical loss of him. I went to my parents house yesterday and it… Read More

Simple Moments To Moment

Dear Friends, I recently found the below inspiration on one of my Instagram accounts and it really jumped off the screen for me: Just for today, keep it simple. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Look at your life for all you have gained rather than lost. Look at your path for everything you have got through rather than everywhere you think you should be. Celebrate rather than criticize. Experience rather than expect. See how that goes. Just for today.                 ~ by S.C. Hard Days Kind Actions

I was having one of those days recently when I was doing my best to think positively but it didn’t seem to be working out. My thoughts felt powerless as things disintegrated around me.  Stuck in traffic.  Rescheduled deadlines. Unscheduled meetings.  Extra phone calls to untangle things that had been screwed up.  No matter how hard I tried to stay calm and focused on turning things around, I couldn’t change it. While the meltdown continued to happen throughout my day, I tried to figure out how things started to go south.  I was trying to see in my mind’s eye… Read More

Awesome Life Stories

Learning to Surf The Waves of Life Each of us has a story to tell about how our particular and significant lives have developed and unfolded over the years and it can be surprising how others decide to reveal pieces of these awesome life stories to us. The more I listen to people of all ages and cultures, the more I realize that we all have something in our lives that at some point has taken the wind out of us and made us question how we can continue on. Sometimes people tell you about their difficult circumstances over a… Read More

In The Moment

Hey there my Resilient Friends! This summer I have been sensing a theme among good solid friends I see a lot and great friends I see occasionally: change is in the air. When we get to a certain place in our lives, we mentally hold pictures of how we think life is going to play itself out.  But life has its’ own idea of what should happen and when we see that our lives aren’t following the groove we had hoped for, we are left with the expectations of what is no longer to be.  I have noticed that… Read More

Summer Tune Up

A couple of days ago, I decided it was time for a summer tune up. I sit in front of a computer for my job and even though I try to get up and move around every couple of hours, I know it’s not a healthy routine.  I constantly struggle with my weight and also with making sure that I am exercising enough.  So last week, knowing that I am capable of doing much more, I decided it was time to change things up a bit in order to feel healthier. Instead of doing my regular after work routine… Read More

You learn a lot about how to navigate the ups and downs of life by watching your parents. I know I did. The people in charge of raising us, for better or worse, are the people who have the first opportunity at influencing us.  Even when we begin to think we have life figured out for ourselves, we may still think back to something that one of our parents did or said and think to ourselves, “I wonder how they did that?”  “I wonder how they knew that?”  Or  perhaps your parents weren’t so wonderful and you might be thinking, … Read More

Simply Satisfying Friday

There is something about the word simple that makes me feel at ease. I’m not sure why it makes me feel that way but it does. Simple.  As in streamlined.  As in efficient.  As in making sure that a lot of superfluous stuff doesn’t get in the way of finding a well worn path to tranquility. As in breaking down complicated situations and keeping them simple. It’s a word that I hang on to when life gives me a lot to handle. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that information overload is currently the ongoing theme… Read More
