And then there are acts of love that people randomly do that are often so selfless as to take your breath away.

Upon reading the healing and tender story from Associated Press I am sharing below, I think it definitely fits into the category of giving when it hurts.

The giving part of the story involves wedding rings.  I say to you, Lovely Boston Widow, I can’t imagine giving away my wedding rings in that manner, but at the same time, I say more power and blessings to you Lovely Boston Widow for doing it.

High five!!

Survivor Friday

I’m blowing my nose and coughing while waiting for the Airborne to dissolve in a glass of water. Ugh! I have a cold. But I’m going to carry on and I’m so thankful that it’s Friday. How are you doing out there?  Glad for the week to end? Here we go with a song to inspire us today and keep us going! It’s a classic blast from the not too distant past: Destiny’s Child sings Survivor which is what I intend to do and you and I can hang in there until it’s quitting time at work and then relax… Read More

Ways To Change the Holiday Menu

I was a very fat baby.  A happy baby but also an overweight baby. I have this theory that all of those fat cells from my infancy are still with me, lying dormant, and whenever I decide to indulge in all things buttery and/or sugary, those same fat cells immediately wake up because they instinctively know it’s a chance to plump up again. It doesn’t take much for me to change my eating habits from good to bad, slapping those extra pounds back on and over Thanksgiving break I could feel it was beginning to happen to me again. It’s… Read More

My Community My Peeps

One of the most important things you can have when you are grieving is a community of support. We all need, and I hope you have, a group of people who offer comfort and understanding through thick and thin.  They care enough about you to know when you need the space for solitude,  when you need a shoulder to cry on and when you need a hug. They also know when you need a laugh and some good ole retail therapy.  Our human connections give us emotional strength and can help to renew us in times of pain and vulnerability.… Read More

She’s Come Undone — Fantastic Fiction

I am always on the lookout for books about how people deal with adversity and in “She’s Come Undone,” the incredible writer Wally Lamb introduces readers to a resilient and unforgettable character by the name of Dolores Price. This is one of those books that I have heard friends enthusiastically talk about for a long time and I have always intended to read it.  Well, I finally took the time to read it for myself and “She’s Come Undone” is truly a great read! This is a story of love and hope and the importance of friendship in dealing with… Read More

A Meaningful Monday

Hey there Resilient Readers! It’s Monday! While I too am saying “Uggg!”, I also am reminding myself that today is not a day to be hurried along just because it’s a Monday. Mondays always painfully remind me that the weekend has ended, but Monday can be a signal that a new week is at hand and the time is now. No day of the week can be taken for granted for we have no idea what life holds for us. The circumstances of our lives may not be what we thought they would be at this point.  You might have… Read More

Back To The Garden

My son and I recently spent a Sunday afternoon meandering around the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia and it reminded me once again of the importance of taking time to immerse yourself in the calming and healing beauty of nature. I was not particularly stressed out when we entered the spectacular gardens but after walking around among the themed gardens and gentle water fountains for about ten minutes, I found myself slowing down and suddenly stopping on the path to take a deep breath and truly look and listen to where I was at that moment.  We sat… Read More

Moving & Grooving

This past weekend I spent a lot of time in the car driving to visit my brothers and my parents on the Eastern Shore.  The weather vacillated between pouring rain, strong wind gusts and then short periods of sunshine which were beautiful but not warm.  The beautiful and sometimes scary Bay Bridge, which crosses over the Chesapeake Bay, even had a wind advisory! Needless to say I didn’t get a chance for much exercise and I am feeling it today.  Kinda loogie; kinda out of it. Physical movement gives me more energy and when I make the effort to walk… Read More
